Thanks to all those who have helped during another challenging year. Just before Christmas we planted the new Plum tree and 2 White Currant shrubs in The Fieldings Community Orchard and also coppiced some of the Willows next to Tanyard Pond (Langshott Pond) to improve light levels. A dead tree that had fallen across the pond from the island was also cleared (photos are available on the HCG Facebook page).
Richard F and Brian S have recently donated 5 small homemade bird boxes, which are currently stored in the HCG’s container…if anyone would like one for their garden, then please let HCG know, as it would be good to try and find a home for them before the Spring nesting season (March).
Thanks to Dave and Mariotte for all the weeding and watering at the orchard and to Bill C and Mike B (our Secretary and Treasurer) for securing the Horley community grant funding earlier this Autumn, some of which has already been spent on a new litter cart and the rest will be spent when new equipment or materials are required.
Thank you as well to Ian and Catherine for additional Himalayan balsam removal along the banks of the Burstow Stream earlier this Summer…this has definitely helped to prevent this highly invasive plant from getting a foothold at Tanyard Meadows.
Also, we would like to thank the other volunteers in Horley that I know are out there and litter picking around their neighbourhoods on a regular basis…they probably won’t see this, as they are not members of this group at the moment, but if know who they are, then please pass on sincere thanks. If you would like to join the group then please contact us via the email link so that we can send them the registration form.
Finally for now, thanks to anyone that has helped the group this year, either in person, or in any other way (you know who you are)! It has been another challenging year for everyone, but I have been very impressed by the continued resilience and enthusiasm shown by all our volunteers and I wish you all a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
