In 2022, the Horley Conservation Group volunteers have continued to help to manage the green spaces in and around the Riverside Green Chain (Tanyard Meadows) for the benefit of people and wildlife, supported by the Gatwick Greenspace Partnership (part of Sussex Wildlife Trust), Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and Horley Town Council.
This year, the group have carried out a variety of practical tasks including;
Small Sycamore thinning at Scotchman’s Copse and also close to Tanyard Pond
Bankside Willow coppicing at Tanyard’s Pond.
Bird box installations close to Langshott
Himalayan balsam removal from Tanyard Meadows (in June and July)
Grass raking and clearance at the Community Orchard (in April and September)
Fruit tree replacement (and regular maintenance throughout the year) at the Community Orchard
Litter picking as part of each month’s task and also individually
A BIG thank you to Waitrose in Horley for the Community grant that we as a group are meeting in January 2023 to discuss how best to use it for the benefit of the local community – watch this space for more information as it becomes available.
*The first task of 2023 will be on Sunday 15th January
